A Biblical Case for Religious Pluralism
A Biblical Case for Religious Pluralism
A Biblical Case for Religious Pluralism continued my movement toward a broader and more expansive vision of what it means to live in the presence of Love.
One challenge I have often encountered in discussions of religious pluralism is how to avoid softening truth claims in an attempt to create harmony between traditions. I wanted to take seriously the claim that a text such as the Bible is God’s word, and from there to examine what it might reveal about a deeper connection between religions across the world.
Taking seriously the idea that God/the Holy is an infinite and loving presence, it follows that this reality is present throughout the world. From this, I explore how religions might be understood as expressing different encounters with Love, particularly in relation to the person of Jesus, and consider what this means for mission and living well with others.
For me, it is now about the larger story, rather than exclusive claims to truth.
Having set out an argument for divine Love being made known across a variety of religious traditions, I wrote a reflective journal as I explored this in my devotional practice.
