The Liberated Life: Part Nine
What is not living is dead. Death is the natural end of finite things. Every living thing in the world will die. This includes beliefs, teachings, attitudes, practices, and ways of life. Nothing grounded in the human condition will live forever. All will die. However, the death we desire is always to be a peaceful one. Death is to be welcomed as a natural part of life. Death is also the end of a world. This is why we want people to experience life in all its fullness before death comes, so that the fruit of their whole life is seen. Let your fruit and the fruit of others ripen in full. This is the true measure of The Liberated Life: How much has it been a Loving, Joyful, Peaceful, and freeing experience?
The goal of The Liberated Life is to live well and to die well. From the moment we are born, we live in the shadow of death. Physical death is a certainty for all, and this can come at any time. We are guaranteed no set number of years. While death can be unexpected, it is a natural part of life. Death is normal. Death is part of the cycle of life and creates the conditions for new life to emerge. Death is never the end. That said, physical death is to be respected for its finality. When someone dies, it is the end of their life in this world. This changes everything. The world will never be the same when someone dies. This is why death must come naturally. We need to prepare ourselves for a new life to come after someone dies. When death is unexpected or unnatural, it creates the conditions in which anger, hatred, and violence thrive. When people are not ready for death, Peace is lacking. Let people die in Peace and do this by respecting and protecting all life. Anytime a death is not peaceful, it leads to a lack of Peace. Always live and die in Peace.
Sitting with the dead and dying is the path to understanding the sanctity of life. An unnatural death will reveal the emptiness that led to this. A life cut short; sacrificed on the altar of feelings that will have eventually passed away. Do not allow one moment to define the whole. We will not always feel anger and hatred that can become the seedbed of violence and the way of death.
Keep letting go. What we think matters often does not. The feelings we hold onto and allow to define our sense of self would have passed away were circumstances different. Nothing is permanent, just life and death. Everything between those two points is of our own making, so create the best life for yourself, one grounded in Unconditional Love, the fruits of which are Joy, Peace, and Freedom.
Pay attention to this: Do not become like one who fears killing the body yet will kill the soul. When the shape and form of someone’s life are determined by others, their soul dies. People end up in a tomb carved out by others for their body to be placed in. This death is to be feared. Die to the old self of other people’s making to be reborn into your own new life. Giving up your life is the Way to find it again. When we lay down the life that other people have made for us, we get to be reborn in this world. This is resurrection, and it begins when our life is grounded in Unconditional Love.
People fear the unknown. Avoid self-medicating anxious thoughts about an uncertain future with words, actions, and behaviours that increase fear and anxiety in the world. These keep people stuck in old stories and limit their freedom to do a new thing; to become a new creation. Fear and anxiety hold people back from The Liberated Life. The invitation is to always live your best life. To be celebrated for having increased love, Joy, Peace, and Freedom in the world. Do this by changing the story from disconnection to connection. I am because we are.
Your life affects all other lives. We live together. Thinking our words and actions have no consequences is the seedbed of fear and anxiety and leads to anger, hatred, and violence. Believing that what we say and do makes no difference will destroy lives. Truth is, we are connected - always. None of us is living life apart from others or from the Love of God/the Holy, despite what we might feel or have been told to believe. Even in our darkest moments, we remain connected to all.
Replace stories of disconnection, separateness, and isolation with ones of connection. Keep retelling these stories. Let the old stories go. Become so invested in the story of connection that you transform the world with this Truth: God/the Holy is at work in all lives through the Way of Love. This is the greatest story of connection we can tell. Love this story for the way it connects us to others and to God/the Holy. Keep finding connections through moments of love and Joy, and maintain these through the Way of Peace. This is the Way of Freedom. Love, Joy, Peace, and Freedom are the ways people get to live their best life. Seek to live your Best Life for the Good of all.
