The Liberated Life: Part Four
The Liberated Life is a story of redemption and reconciliation through the Way of Love. With this story, people can be made whole again. Love will bring new life to all persons again and again into wholeness through the Presence of God/the Holy. This story is a counter-narrative to the one where we are said to have been born into the world disconnected from God/the Holy and each other.
The story of our disconnection from God/the Holy is often told so that some might validate themselves as having the only means by which access to God/the Holy is granted. Truth is, nothing can, has, or ever will separate us from the Presence of God/the Holy. We can never be separated from an Infinite Reality, for there is no in/out when it comes to infinity. God/the Holy is also the source of Unconditional Love. This means from the moment we are born, we are (and remain) fully connected to Love. We only ever become disconnected when we choose to accept and live by stories that foster the illusion of disconnection.
The same is true when it comes to ourselves and others. We are born into this world whole and fully connected to each other. We only become disconnected (and lacking a sense of wholeness) when we are taught to see ourselves and others differently. Separation is maintained when fear and anxiety dominate our thinking and become a source of self-doubt, mistrust, anger, hatred, abuse (verbal/physical), and violence. Self-defeating behaviours such as addiction, self-harm, negative self-talk, and using others to get their emotional needs met cause people to hurt themselves and others and are individually and communally destructive.
People will keep cycling through their life stories over and over until they have learned the lessons from them; until they have faced their fears and looked beneath them. One question we might ask as we do this is whether we are listening to the voice of fear more than anything else. If so, why is fear given such power? What Joy is fear keeping hidden? Sometimes fear is linked to shame, so we might also wonder whether we are ashamed of having a certain thing in our life, especially something that brings us Joy. When we uncover the truth about our fears, we begin to know Peace. The storm will be stilled. This work starts with knowing and embracing our full story in the Presence of Love.
